"March Madness, The Summits are in Thick !" 3/3/2021

In the past week we have seen the number of grabs jump up quick as the Summits have showed up in a major way. This time of year it's a bit of a numbers game and we really need to weed through the fish to find the large Pilot peaks. With the lack of winter weather we have had a lot of high pressure days when the fish are off in the deep water and seldom push into the shallow water to feed. But when the stars align and we actually have winter weather, in the winter the fish really put on the feed bags and eat heavily. This last week we had a few amazing days with numerous large fish and plenty of doubles, triples and even a quad hook up or two. A real fun week to say the least.

To say the fishery is healthy would be an understatement. This past week we fished a different beach each day of the week. And the fish are everywhere in numbers. Don't feel the need to stare at the same beach day after day. Move and chase these fish according to the weather and go explore! The strong push of summits is a nice warm welcome to really help increase the amount of action through the day. On the really calm high sun days think deeper beaches and drop offs. On the cloudy nasty days it's really hard to go wrong.

The strip bite has really picked up heavily in the last couple weeks. With the numbers of fish now pushed it allows for anglers to have better chances at tangling with a trophy cutthroat. Now it's a competition for these fish to feed. Which fish is going to kill that beetle floating up oddly in the water column? Who is the top predator? Wooly buggers in all the natural bait fish colors have been enticing these large predatory fish. And boobies and beetles in naturals and beyond will always entice these Lahontan's.

Angler #fishslayer Shelly Wampler came out on an Al Ritt hosted trip and if you notice the tape on her finger the strip bite gave her combat wounds. PC: PFC Head Guide Morgan Kane

It's damn near impossible to beat fishing under the bobber! The amount of time one's flies spend in the strike zone is unmatched. Midges are the main staple under the bobber now that the bait is a bit more spread and the midges are hatching in mass amounts. Don't just stare at that bobber. Look away, talk to your neighbor, pet the dogs and tell some jokes. If you do anything other than stare at that orange ball I'm sure it will disappear in a hurry.

Staring at that little orange ball can pay large dividends. PC: PFC Head Guide Morgan Kane

With all the time we have spent indoors lately the last thing you want to do is spend more time inside. The fish are in, the weather is way too nice for winter, the fish are biting and I'm sure we can find some time to get you and your friends and family out on the water.

When the bobber goes down ! Al had a great time on the hosted Al Ritt group trip. Way to go Al and Morgan.
