Happy New Year !!! 1/6/26
/As we ring in the new year and the 2026/2027 fishing season, we want to thank everyone that came out last season! It was a memorable and exciting one with lots of smiles, laughs and of course big trout.
Connor and caden out for new years day with the PFC Crew. Love the boots caden
The fishing throughout December was good. Fish were staying tight to the western shoreline and feeding throughout the day. Fair weather has slowed it down but not quite shut it down. As we always say, we want the weather. Current, wind and clouds play a big part at Pyramid Lake. Is weather always needed? Nope.
Nate was spending his time with good buddy PFC Guide Cole Hildahl and didn’t miss this grab.
As we slide into January, we continue to see storm patterns work their way down; dropping pressure usually drops the bobber! The fish have been starting to congregate on certain beaches, time on the water and persistence goes a long way. It's a big lake with plenty of options.
Matthew and his buddy came out and fished with PFC Guide COle Hildahl. Picture says a thousand words
Connor and Ashley crushed it with the PFC Crew. Double trouble
The fish have been starting to congregate on certain beaches, time on the water and persistence goes a long way. Pyramid is a big lake with plenty of options. Our Team at Pyramid Fly Co can take that big weight off your shoulders.
Nick came North from SO Cal to fish with PFC Guide MOrgan Kane and wow, what a gorgeous fish, Great job guys.
A perfect morning: James and his son Ethan came down from Monterey Bay for their chance at the biggest cutthroat trout in the world. As we all do, Ethan kept a close eye on shifting weather patterns and wind, and boy was this one accurate. We started pretty centrally located on the lake and found a spot where the wind would not give us too hard of a time. Waiting for the sun to creep over the horizon, we laughed and talked about fish stories and of course the ones that got away.
Ethan took it all in, great time with PFC Guide Cade Schwender
That little 20-minute conversation made me think of how often fishermen get so caught up in the pursuit of fish; we let those conversations slip away. Those are some of my favorite moments when the clients and I are going over the game plan, shooting ideas back and forth about patterns, favorite home waters and much more.
Ethan took the advice given to him and produced !!!!
We did just that and climbed up onto the chair ladders. Ethan was familiar with two handed spey casting, and it showed laying 60+ft cast with confidence. It was a windy, wavy, cold morning once that sun cast a fiery glow across the cloud ceiling and the temp rose. Ethan's bobber slipped under “I got one and it feels big” we watched it do its paces across the ledge and after a good fired up five minutes it hit the rubber, an 8 lb summit lake strain cutty. With a grin ear to ear and one of the biggest trout Ethan had landed. We took some hero shots and sent it back to get bigger. That left James to catch one for himself and before Ethan even got situated on the ladder, I heard “I got one on” and James was swinging into that second fish and his first of the morning just like Ethan's fish! That thing paddled its way across the ledge and would not give us a chance just yet. After a great fight James got that fish's head up and slid him right into the bag. Got dad's picture and watched that fish slip back into the depths. And for us all, it was a perfect morning.
No better feeling then being fully corked
The fish have been on that work hard play hard mentality this year seeing a lot of higher weight class summits in the mix, some even pushing that 10lb mark seeing backing has been common, so make sure you have enough on there. You don't rush fish like these; you respect their power. Pilots are making more appearances as well. There were really nice fish being landed across the lake recently.
Jayce was out with PFC Guide Cade Schwender and I’d say they did just fine.
I would like to say let the fish be the bonus and encapsulate the shared stories along with the raw beauty Pyramid Lake has to offer.
PFC Guide MOrgan Kane truly captured a picture perfect morning.
When has the bite been ? Mornings, mid afternoon and around sundown has been the bite windows. But the Crystal Ball tells you that you have to keep your bugs in the water to catch em as they go by.
Lauren came out from the Bay area with here husband Jermey for a great trip with PFC guide Morgan Kane.
What are they eating ? For the indicator crowd it’s been leeches, midges and tui chub patterns. For the strippers AKA Retrievers, we’ve been throwing the standards, popcorn beetles in a couple of colors, chartreuse/white and purple/black and boobies in the same colors. Don’t rule out the faithful midnight cowboy wooly worm.
Think old school sometimes. Have you done your research ?
Scott wasn’t to be shown up by Lauren.
PFC Guide Brock Wilson has been on New Daddy Duty but when he’s out with his clients like Jay you can feel the stoke.
Pfc Guide Morgan Kane and Larry taking advantage of their time together. I think Larry approves.
PFC Guide Cole Hildahl figured he’ll fish after a guide trip before he went for his sheep tag.
YUP, got the big fish and his NV ram. Way to go COle. Cole is also a big game guide in the summer in AK
PFC guide and triathlate Cade Schwender taking a break inbetween guiding and training.
Don't count down the days and don’t miss out, give us a call 877-PFC-FLYS and we'll take care of the rest. Happy New Year Everyone Cade and the PFC Team
