10/15/26 Quality over Quantity

The season is finally underway. What a long 3 months. Why are we so excited ? We live Pyramid Lake, it’s in our blood. Why so ? Pyramid Lake is the Home of the Worlds Largest Cutthroat Trout.

The season started off slower then previous openers with quality ruling over quantity for fly fisherman. Large concentrations of Tui Chubs can be seen all throughout the lake. Best way right now to reach the fish is on Water Masters or a boat.

Jermey was out with PFC GUide Cole Hildahl and the first fish of the day for him was a good one.

Jermey followed up his first one with this corgeous thick Cutty

Deep water techniques with tui chub patterns “Olive and White as well as Purple and Black” have been bending rods. Fishing two flies on a tag has been the norm.

Electronics have been a big key to locating and staying with the Tui Chubs and Cutthroats

Fish have been suspended between 40 and 80 foot of water. Where you see the bait you find the fish.

Back to back Pigs ceates an even bigger smiles with PFC guide Morgan Kane

The bites, grabs, takes have been technical but once you get the “feel for it”…….

Robert took coaching from PFC Guide COle Hildahl real good and the smile says it all.

RObert is a good student with another double digit.

Nothing like your first 20 lber

The fish are fired up and when you hook em, keep a bend in the rod and hold on for a ride. Don’t fish less then 15lb floro for your leader. They are not heavily leader shy at this time. Some days 20lb floro gets bit just as good as 15lb floro. We like to use Seaguar Yellow label Invizx for most applications at Pyramid.

Baker back at it again with PFC GUIDE Brock WIlson and Baker would never miss an opener.

bAKERS MINI ME ENJOYING HIS LUNCH WATCHING THE CREW ON THE WATER.

Baker brought his buddy with him and Pyrmaid Didn’t disappoint. Baker was right “Home of the Worlds Largest cutthroat trout”

It’s all in the feel, you feel the tui Chubs hitting your line and then you feel a little different bump. That means go time, reel until your rod is bent. Yup I just repeated myself. Get the point. Lots of fish are missed but when it all comes together…..

Your holding em

Serious thickness, you think 8 lb tippet would hold this monster ?

What beach should I hit ? That is the magic question and depends on where the baitfish are holding. Try the deeper beaches that has deep water access close to shore. You will see anglers grouped together on the water. Don’t be afraid to search out new areas. If you see birds on the water, go give the area a try. Birds are not there for no reason.

Tim came to fish with PFC Guide Morgan Kane and got his Double Digit.

Solid Fish right ? THey are so helathy.

Dean and his son fishing with PFC GUIDE Morgan Kane Making memories together.

Little Dean holding his own on the water.

If fishing feels like the action is slow, you let your guard down. You have been bit more then you think.

Remember the little bumps I was talking about ? Was that a Tui Chub or a 20 lber ?

PeP got his new PB WITH pfc guIDE mORGAN kANE !!!!

Watch the weather patterns, nights are getting into the low 40’s and next week will be in the low 30’s. This will drop the water temps and drive the fish closer to shore. it will be a 2-3 weeks but once that happens, it’s Ladder Chair time. It’s not far away.

What do the PFC boys do after a guide trip ? Fish of course !!!
